Sports Betting Weekly Wrap: Ohtani Next Team Odds, McCaffrey TD Bet, ESPN Bet Launch Date And More

Zinger Key Points
  • The NCAA Men's Basketball season kicked off with 21 of the top 25 ranked teams playing Monday.
  • ESPN Bet launches next week in one of the biggest stories for the sector.

Here's a look at some of the top bets and stories from the past week and for the week ahead in the world of sports betting.

Major League Baseball: The 2023 Major League Baseball season may be over, but there are still bets available for baseball fans.

One of the popular offseason bets is likely to be to wager on the next team to sign baseball superstar pitcher and hitter Shohei Ohtani. Here are the current odds from DraftKings Inc DKNG:

Los Angeles Dodgers: +100

San Francisco Giants: +600

Chicago Cubs: +600

New York Mets: +750

New York Yankees: +800

Texas Rangers: +900

Ohtani's previous club, the Los Angeles Angels, ranks ninth in the odds with +1600 odds.

McCaffrey Streak Alive: San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is having an impressive 2023 and currently has a streak of 17 straight games with a touchdown scored, dating back to last season.

Bettors who have been tailing this stat have been winning, even with sportsbooks lowering the payout odds.

McCaffrey and the 49ers take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and the running back to get a touchdown pays out with odds of -185, which would pay out a profit of $54 on a $100 bet.

College Football Betting: The 2023 NCAA Football season is getting close to the postseason and there are still multiple undefeated teams fighting to make the four-team playoffs.

The playoff rankings have shown Ohio State on top, but the undefeated Buckeyes still come in fourth place in the betting odds at DraftKings at odds of +700. Michigan (+220), Georgia (+260) and Florida State (+650) are the top three teams for sportsbooks.

Michigan plays top-10 opponent Penn State on Saturday and there are ramblings of punishments against the team coming, which bettors should monitor.

Outside of the NCAA College Football Playoff hunt, there could also be a record hit this weekend for sportsbooks. The over/under for the Iowa, Rutgers game is at 28.5, which would be the lowest total in the last 30 years. BetMGM's John Ewing said unders are 37-19-1 for Iowa since 2019.

Top Ten Basketball Loss On Opening Night: The NCAA Men's Basketball season kicked off Monday and 21 of the top 25 ranked teams were in action.

Of the 21 teams, only one suffered an opening night loss. Fourth-ranked Michigan State lost 79 to 76 in overtime to James Madison, which came after being a 16.5 point betting favorite. A bet on James Madison to win paid out with odds of +1000. Michigan State saw their odds to win the 2024 NCAA Men's Championship dip slightly from +1500 to +1800.

It's a good thing that one bettor ignored this game. As reported by Darren Rovell, a bettor at DraftKings bet on the spread of 15 NCAA Men's Basketball games with all being favorites of 18.5 points or more. The $25 bonus bet paid out $407,600.

Big Parlay Cashes: Benzinga shared the news that a strong performance from backup point guard Payton Pritchard of the Boston Celtics led to an unlikely parlay cashing.

Pritchard played a season-high 26 minutes in a blowout win and posted a stat line of 15 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists, compared to season averages of 4.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

A four-leg parlay placed with DraftKings saw a bettor wager $50 on Pritchard to get 8 or more assists, two or more rebounds, 9 or more combined points and rebounds and the Celtics to win by 3.5 points or more. The bet had 1,000-to-1 odds and paid out a profit of $50,000.

ESPN Bet Coming: To leave things off, one of the biggest sports betting items in recent years is set to happen in the coming week. For years, ESPN has been synonymous with sports and Walt Disney Co. DIS-owned brand has dominated with sports media rights and content. After years of anticipation, ESPN will be utilized as a sports betting platform, through a licensing partnership with PENN Entertainment PENN.

ESPN Bet launches Nov. 14 in 17 states.
