Bettor Turns $10 Into $131K Thanks To NFL Favorites Winning (And Scoring Lots Of Points) In Week 6

Zinger Key Points
  • Large parlays featuring multiple NFL games continue to be popular at sportsbooks.
  • A bettor turned $10 into more than $100,000 in Week 6 of the NFL season.

A bettor was able to turn $10 into more than $131,000 thanks to many of the favorites in Week 6 winning their NFL games and scoring lots of points, reversing an early season trend of underdogs winning.

What Happened: One of the common themes of the 2024 NFL season start was underdog teams covering the spread and sometimes winning. The Minnesota Vikings and the Kansas City Chiefs — attempting to win a third straight Super Bowl —were the only two unbeaten teams.

A bettor at Fanatics sportsbook decided to test their luck on the favorites reversing course and winning their games and covering the spread during the Week 6 matchups. The bettor also predicted that several of the games would hit the over, meaning lots of points scored.

The bet of $10 turned into $131,390 according to sports betting reporter Ben Fawkes. Here were the 16 legs in the parlay that all needed to hit to win the bet and the outcomes that helped the legs win.

  • San Francisco 49ers/Seattle Seahawks Over 49: 60 points scored
  • San Francisco 49ers -3.5: 49ers won by 12 points
  • Jacksonville Jaguars/Chicago Bears Over 44.5: 51 points scored
  • Chicago Bears -2.5: Bears won by 19 points
  • Houston Texans/New England Patriots Over 38: 62 points scored
  • Houston Texans -7: Texans won by 20
  • Washington Commanders/Baltimore Ravens Over 51: 53 points scored
  • Philadelphia Eagles Moneyline: Eagles won by 4
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers/New Orleans Saints Over 41: 78 points scored
  • Pittsburgh Steelers/Las Vegas Raiders Over 37: 45 points scored
  • Pittsburgh Steelers -3: Steelers won by 19
  • Los Angeles Chargers/Denver Broncos Over 35: 39 points scored
  • Atlanta Falcons/Carolina Panthers Over 46.5: 58 points scored
  • Atlanta Falcons Moneyline: Falcons won by 18
  • Cincinnati Bengals -3.5: Bengals won by 10
  • Buffalo Bills -2.5: won by 3

The 16-leg parlay included bets on 11 of the 14 Week 6 games with some games consisting of a bet on the spread and the over. Based on the results above, the closest contests to the bets were the over/under on the Commanders/Ravens hitting by two points and the Bills covering the -2.5 spread by 0.5 points.

The Bills winning came on the very last game of the week, with the team beating the New York Jets by 3 points in the Monday Night Football contest that aired on ESPN, a unit of The Walt Disney Company DIS.

Why It's Important: Parlays have quickly become one of the top betting items for sportsbooks. Bettors often make plays that resemble lottery tickets of high risk and unlikely odds of hitting. However, there are huge payouts if they do.

Benzinga has reported on several parlays before that have paid out huge winnings for the unlikeliest of outcomes hitting.

Caesars Entertainment CZR also had a bettor hit a 13-leg NFL parlay during Week 6. A bettor turned $10 into $48,447.95. Caesars shared the winning bet on its X account. Highlighting huge parlay wins can be used as a marketing play for sportsbooks.

In that 13-leg parlay, the bettor bet on the spread for 13 games without using any over/under plays.

Betting favorites went 12-2 on the moneyline and were 11-3 against the spread in Week 6, as reported by Bookies. Through the first six weeks of the NFL season, favorites are 59-33 in games on the moneyline and 49-41-2 against the spread.

Bettors will now be tasked with predicting which trend will continue between underdogs covering the spread or the favorites covering the spread.
