Shaquille O'Neal Built His $400M Net Worth Using This 1 Golden Investing Rule

Zinger Key Points
  • Shaquille O'Neal has grown his net worth through various investments.
  • O'Neal's investment mantra is to invest in life-changing innovations.

Shaquille O’Neal was arguably one of the most unstoppable players in NBA history and made more than $280 million during his career, according to Sportrac. However, since his retirement in 2011, the player fondly known as "The Big Diesel" has continued to grow his net worth through a diverse portfolio of investments, outlined in a Twitter thread by Profluence’s Andrew Petcash.

O’Neal has one golden rule when it comes to investing: “Only invest in things that are going to change people’s lives.” By following this mantra, he's invested in innovative companies like Ring, Google, and Vitamin Water.

O’Neal, like many other investors, including Warren Buffett, is also a big fan of cash-flowing businesses. At one point, the four-time NBA champion owned more than 150 Five Guys Burgers & Fries locations. He also has investments in car washes, gyms and other types of businesses.

O'Neal has admitted that he hasn't always been financially savvy. He once confessed to spending $1 million in a single day, a moment that served as a wake-up call for him to be more prudent with his finances. While most people may never find themselves spending a million in a day, everyone has their moments of financial realization.

O'Neal now seems to have turned his money habits around and is using his golden rule to make long-term investments. Oh, and did I mention that he’s also getting paid to perform DJ sets at major music festivals? Talk about a side hustle.

Petcash, who has grown a massive following on Twitter sharing threads related to athlete’s finances, founded Profluence to curate information, content and data about the future of sports. To learn more about Profluence, visit its website here, or check out Petcash’s Twitter page.
