Barstool, Dave Portnoy Do It Again With Viral Hole-In-One Challenge: Here Are The Details

Zinger Key Points
  • As anyone who has ever tried to play a round of golf knows, getting a one on a par 3 is not easy.
  • After more than 30 hours of streaming, Jersey Jerry finally did the impossible.

Ten years ago, Jersey Jerry was a union pipe fitter in Pennsylvania. Now he’s hitting golf balls into a simulator for an audience that would fill a SEC football stadium to the brim.

Jerry began a challenge to hit a hole-in-one on Barstool Sports’ golf simulator in the company’s new Chicago headquarters. The rules were simple: Jerry was not allowed to leave the office/simulator room until a hole-in-one was made.

As anyone who has ever tried to play a round of golf knows, getting a one on a par 3 is not as easy as some pros make it look. Jerry embarked on his golf journey Tuesday night at 10 p.m. ET. Then, after more than 30 hours of streaming, Jerry finally did the impossible and sunk one Thursday morning.

The whole sports world was entranced by Jerry’s intrepidness and perseverance. NFL icons like Tom Brady and J.J. Watt even took to Twitter to help Jerry celebrate his accomplishment.

At one point, more than 80,000 concurrent viewers tuned in to Jerry’s livestream of the challenge. His "victory speech" on Twitter was viewed more than 2 million times within the first four hours of being posted.

Jerry’s success exemplifies the great parts of Barstool Sports: elevating an everyday sports fan into a viral sensation through his authentic personality. Other Barstool personalities, like Big Cat and PFT Commenter, also come from working everyday jobs before catapulting to fame through the company.
