Since June 2024, BP suspended or paused 30 projects to concentrate on its most lucrative initiatives, according to a report from <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-16/bp-eliminates-thousands-of-jobs-in-cost-cutting-effort-ceo-says?srnd=phx-industries-energy&amp;sref=TBDibEcD">Bloomberg</a>.

For the fourth quarter, the company anticipates a decline in upstream production compared to the previous quarter, with reductions in both oil and gas &amp; low-carbon energy output.
In the gas and low-carbon energy segment, realizations are expected to improve by $0.1 to $0.2 billion, driven by fluctuations in non-Henry Hub natural gas prices.
In the oil production and operations sector, BP predicts a negative impact on realizations of $0.2 billion to $0.4 billion, primarily due to price lags, especially in the Gulf of Mexico and UAE.

The International Energy Agency has revised its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/oil" rel="noreferrer noopener">global oil demand</a> outlook slightly for 2025, projecting growth of 1.05 million barrels per day, down from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.iea.org/reports/oil-market-report-december-2024" rel="noreferrer noopener">the previously estimated</a> 1.1 million barrels daily.
The new forecast anticipates global demand will average 104 million barrels daily, reflecting a combination of improving economic conditions and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.iea.org/reports/oil-market-report-january-2025" rel="noreferrer noopener">lower fuel prices</a>.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, oil demand rebounded strongly, increasing by 1.5 million barrels daily—the highest growth since late 2023.

The IEA attributed this surge to reduced fuel prices, colder weather in northern regions, and heightened petrochemical activity in the U.S. However, while 2025 demand growth will likely surpass 2024, it will fall short of the over 2 million barrels per day increase seen in 2023.
OPEC projects a higher demand growth of <a target="_blank" href="https://momr.opec.org/pdf-download/" rel="noreferrer noopener">1.45 million barrels daily</a>.
<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/commodities/24/11/41899890/opec-cuts-2024-oil-demand-forecast-for-fourth-straight-month-amid-chinas-economic-slowdown" rel="noreferrer noopener">Disappointing data from</a> major Asian markets, including China, India, and African countries, prompted OPEC to revise its oil demand growth forecasts for 2024 several times.
Still, OPEC&#8217;s estimates looked more optimistic than those of Wall Street banks and Saudi Aramco.
China saw a significant uptick in oil demand in November, driven by rising gasoil consumption and falling diesel prices, which hit their lowest in nearly three years.
The IEA highlighted that signs of stabilization in China&#8217;s property market could support further recovery in oil demand. Projections suggest China will add 220,000 barrels per day to its oil consumption in 2025, compared to a 180,000-barrel daily increase in 2024, the Wall Street Journal <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/business/energy-oil/iea-trims-oil-demand-outlook-but-still-expects-stronger-growth-this-year-a972c71b?mod=business_lead_pos4" rel="noreferrer noopener">reports</a>.
Recent U.S. sanctions targeting Russia&#8217;s energy sector and shipping networks and measures aimed at Iran&#8217;s shadow fleet could disrupt global oil supplies. These actions may compel major buyers like China and India to seek alternative sources.
Meanwhile, Brent crude prices hover around $80 per barrel, and U.S. West Texas Intermediate trades near $77 per barrel, reflecting market concerns over tightened supply, the WSJ reports.
Despite geopolitical pressures, global oil supply rose modestly in December 2024, supported by increased production in Nigeria and Libya. For 2025, the IEA forecasts supply growth of 1.8 million barrels daily, led by non-OPEC+ countries such as the U.S., Brazil, and Canada. However, the agency cautioned that sanctions or weather-related disruptions could rapidly draw down existing oil stocks.

Defense stocks are moving slightly lower Wednesday after Israel and Hamas verbally agreed on a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43011383/israel-gaza-ceasefire-hostage-exchange">ceasefire in Gaza</a>.
What Happened: Hamas accepted a draft agreement on Wednesday for a ceasefire in Gaza that includes the release of several hostages, according to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43011383/israel-gaza-ceasefire-hostage-exchange">multiple reports</a>. 
The agreement follows months of negotiations and paves the way for a potential end to the ongoing war in the Middle East that began about 15 months ago. The verbal agreement also comes just days before President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s inauguration. 
&#8220;We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you!&#8221; Trump&nbsp;said in a post on Truth Social.
The deal reportedly includes a six-week ceasefire and the release of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners. Israel still needs to ratify the deal, but a vote is expected by Thursday.

Energy stocks including BP P.L.C (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>), Chevron Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COP#NYSE">COP</a>) also pulled back slightly on the ceasefire news, but bounced back pretty quickly. 
The United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>) hit new 52-week highs on Wednesday on continued momentum from last week after the U.S. announced its most extensive sanctions on Russian oil exports to date.

BP p.l.c. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>) shares fell premarket on Tuesday after&nbsp;the company&nbsp;updated&nbsp;fourth-quarter&nbsp;guidance.
The company expects upstream production to decline compared to the previous quarter, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bp.com/en/global/corporate/news-and-insights/press-releases/fourth-quarter-2024-trading-statement.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">with </a>decreases in both oil production and gas &amp; low-carbon energy.
In the gas &amp; low carbon energy segment, realizations are expected to benefit by $0.1 to $0.2 billion, driven by changes in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">non-Henry Hub natural gas prices</a>.
Also, in the oil production &amp; operations segment, the company anticipates realizations to have an unfavorable impact of&nbsp;$0.2 billion&nbsp;to&nbsp;$0.4 billion due to price lags,&nbsp;particularly in the Gulf of Mexico and UAE.
Apart from this, BP projects lower exploration write-offs to be $0.1 billion to $0.2 billion lower quarter-over-quarter.
The company anticipates gas marketing and trading results to be average.
In the customers &amp; products segment, BP expects results to be lower due to seasonally reduced volumes, weaker fuel margins, FX losses, and a one-off inventory adjustment from the bio-ethanol acquisition.
Also, Refining margins are projected to decline by $0.1 billion to $0.3 billion, with increased turnaround impacts, while oil trading performance is anticipated to be weak.
BP now anticipates a decrease in net debt at the end of the quarter. Brent averaged $74.73/bbl in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to $80.34/bbl in the third quarter of 2024.
Meanwhile, BP's refining marker margin (RMM) averaged&nbsp;$13.1&nbsp;per barrel, compared to&nbsp;$16.5&nbsp;per barrel in the&nbsp;third quarter.
Last week, BP was selected by India's&nbsp;ONGC as a Technical Services Provider (TSP) to enhance <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/42900479" rel="noreferrer noopener">production from Mumbai High Field</a>.

Shares of oil-related companies are trading higher amid new U.S. sanctions towards Russia's energy supply chain.

BP p.l.c. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>) has been selected by India&#8217;s&nbsp;ONGC as a Technical Services Provider (<a target="_blank" href="https://ongcindia.com/web/eng/detail?assetEntry=69670160&amp;assetClassPK=69670154" rel="noreferrer noopener">TSP</a>) to enhance production from Mumbai High Field.
Notably, Shell and BP took part in the pre-bid process, with BP ultimately submitting the bid.
Under the agreement, BP is anticipated to receive a fixed fee for the initial two years, followed by a performance-based service fee linked to a share of net incremental production revenue, after recovering costs.
The contract duration is ten years and BP projects a significant increase in crude oil and gas production during the period, with crude output rising by ~44% from 45.47 MMT &#8211; 65.41 MMT baseline production and gas production growing by ~89% from 24.94 BCM &#8211; 47.22 BCM.
The company expects combined oil and gas output to rise by ~60%, from 70.40 MMToe &#8211; 112.63 MMToe.
The production boost is anticipated to be visible from FY26, with full-scale output targeted by FY28.
The incremental increase is expected to generate up to $10.3 billion in additional oil and gas revenue and up to $5 billion in incremental contributions to the Indian government through royalties, cess, and other levies.
Last month, BP and XRG&#8217;s new joint venture, Arcius Energy, will focus on building a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/contracts/24/12/42513647/arcius-energy-takes-off-bp-and-xrgs-gas-power-play-in-egypt" rel="noreferrer noopener">competitive gas portfolio in Egypt</a>.

Russian gas exports reportedly stopped running through Soviet-era Ukrainian pipelines on Wednesday after Ukraine refused to renew <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s/25/01/42769181/natural-gas-prices-surge-as-arctic-blast-freezes-us-3-stocks-on-the-move">a transit agreement.</a>
The Details: Russia's gas firm Gazprom said the gas stopped at 0500 GMT after Ukraine refused to renew the transit agreement in a widely anticipated move.  
Reuters reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram that the end of Russian natural gas flows through Ukraine was &#8220;one of Moscow&#8217;s biggest defeats.&#8221;&nbsp;
Zelenskyy also encouraged allies to supply more gas to Europe to fill the gap left by the end of the Russian supply.&nbsp;
&#8220;The more there is on the market from Europe&#8217;s real partners, the faster we will overcome the last negative consequences of European energy dependence on Russia,&#8221; he wrote.

Shares of U.S.-based liquified natural gas exporters, including Devon Energy Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DVN#NYSE">DVN</a>) and Cheniere Energy, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LNG#NYSE">LNG</a>), are up Thursday as LNG exports to Europe are expected to rise in 2025. 
"Cheniere's LNG has been a vital part of the European response to Russia's war in Ukraine and has shown how security of supply, in the form of reliability of production and flexibility of delivery, are vastly important for this moment, and for the decades to come," Corey Grindal, COO of Cheniere Energy said in a 2023<a href="https://www.lng2023.org/news/cheniere-key-contributor-european-energy-security"> interview</a>.&nbsp;
"Cheniere produced about 11% of all LNG worldwide in 2022 and more than 70% of Cheniere's LNG was exported to Europe, by Cheniere or our customers," Grindal added.&nbsp;
The European Commission released a statement stating that the EU had anticipated and prepared for the stoppage of Russian gas flows.&nbsp;
‘&#8221;The European gas infrastructure is flexible enough to provide gas of non-Russian origin,&#8221; a spokesperson for the commission said. &#8220;It has been reinforced with significant new LNG (liquefied natural gas) import capacities since 2022.&#8221;
According to Reuters, Hungary will continue to receive Russian gas through the TurkStream pipeline and the last remaining European buyers of Russian gas, Slovakia and Austria, have arranged other supplies. &nbsp;
The Slovakian government said on Tuesday that there is no danger of a gas shortage and its state-owned gas firm SPP has gas supply contracts with large international suppliers including BP PLC (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>), Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>) and Shell PLC (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SHEL#NYSE">SHEL</a>).

Kosmos Energy Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KOS#NYSE">KOS</a>) shares are trading higher premarket on Thursday. The company disclosed the start of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/b42758754/kosmos-energy-announces-first-gas-at-the-greater-tortue-ahmeyim-lng-project-in-mauritania-and-sene" rel="noreferrer noopener">gas production at the Greater Tortue </a>Ahmeyim LNG project offshore Mauritania and Senegal, operated by BP p.l.c. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>).
Gas from Phase 1 began flowing to the FPSO vessel on December 31, 2024, with liquefaction at the floating LNG vessel set to follow.
Phase 1 is expected to produce 2.3 million tonnes of LNG annually, with a vessel nameplate capacity of 2.7 mtpa.
The achievement of first gas marks a significant milestone for the partnership and the governments of Mauritania and Senegal, advancing their goal of becoming a key LNG production hub in West Africa.
The first LNG production is anticipated soon. The initial cargo is expected in the first quarter of 2025, at which point revenue recognition for the project will commence.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew G. Inglis said, &#8220;Achieving first gas sets the stage for us to ramp up production and reach the ~90,000 boepd production target we set two years ago. With our key growth projects largely delivered and capex falling, Kosmos is well positioned going into 2025.&#8221;
&#8221;The company remains focused on disciplined capital allocation and the generation of free cash flow that enables us to pay down debt, reduce leverage to less than 1.5x, and enhance the financial resilience of the company.&#8220;
Following the end of the third quarter, the company stated that Equatorial Guinea achieved the startup of its first infill well, increasing gross production to approximately<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/11/b41705712/kosmos-energy-announces-third-quarter-2024-results" rel="noreferrer noopener"> 30,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd)</a>.

(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>) disclosed the financial close and completed formation of their new joint venture, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bp.com/en/global/corporate/news-and-insights/press-releases/bp-and-xrg-close-deal-to-launch-new-natural-gas-platform-arcius-energy.html?utm_source=PC%26C%20%7C%20C%26EA%20%7C%20External%20%7C%20Global%20%7C%20bp.com%20news&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=14802780_bp%20and%20XRG%20close%20deal%20to%20launch%20new%20natural%20gas%20platform%20%E2%80%93%20Arcius%20Energy&amp;dm_i=1PGC,8T9WC,5D8AP6,10NZET,1" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arcius </a>Energy.
Formed in February 2024, Arcius Energy is 51% owned by BP and 49% by XRG, ADNOC&#8217;s investment company.
The joint venture will leverage both companies&#8217; technical expertise and development experience to build a competitive gas portfolio.
Arcius Energy will initially operate in Egypt, incorporating BP-assigned interests in two development concessions and exploration agreements.

Investors can gain exposure to BP via&nbsp;Amplify ETF Trust Amplify Natural Resources Dividend Income ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NDIV#NYSE">NDIV</a>) and Avantis International Large Cap Value ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVIV#NYSE">AVIV</a>).
