Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) shares fell sharply in premarket trading on Wednesday, with the pullback coming after the company <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/07/39918390/tesla-q2-earnings-highlights-revenue-beat-eps-miss-robotaxi-update-2024-growth-rate-to-be-notably-l">reported its second-quarter results.</a>
The company reported second-quarter earnings per share that trailed expectations. The Future Fund LLC&#8217;s Gary Black said that for an estimated 14-cent per share in restructuring charges, adjusted earnings per share would have handily beat the consensus.
Revenue, however, unexpectedly increased, although by a very modest increment of 2%, and beat the consensus estimate.
What set investors worrying is the fact that some key metrics such as the auto gross margin, excluding regulatory credits, and free cash flow came in shy of estimates and that the one-time regulatory credits nearly doubled, providing a transitory boost to the bottom line. Regulatory credits have a 100% gross margin and typically flow down to the bottom line without any reductions.
Elon Musk&#8217;s comments regarding the 2024 volume growth notably lower than 2023 also impacted sentiment.

The after-hours sell-off in the shares intensified after Musk&#8217;s commentary on the earnings call. Summarizing his comments from the first 10 minutes or so, Deepwater Asset Management&#8217;s Gene Munster said they implied that &#8220;keep your eyes on the prize which is FSD, autonomy, fleets and Optimus.&#8221; Tesla investors are used to waiting, the tech analyst said, adding that &#8220;The reason why the stock is drifting lower in after-hours is because the dip in margins in June elevated investors&#8217; desire to hear more details on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39923738/tesla-reiterates-new-electric-vehicles-on-track-for-2025-but-ceo-elon-musk-refuses-to-divulge-detail">2025 product announcements.&#8221;</a>
With Musk confirming the robotaxi unveil event for Oct. 10, Munster said investors will get the details they&#8217;re looking for in three months.
In premarket trading, the stock fell 7.35% to $228.27, according to <a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/register174">Benzinga Pro data.</a> The stock is down 0.85% for the year-to-date period.

General Motors (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) halted <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39903020/gms-cruise-abandons-pedal-less-origin-autonomous-vehicle-pivots-to-next-generation-chevrolet-bolt-in">development of their Origin autonomous vehicle</a> as they cannot make it work and not because of regulatory concerns as claimed, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) CEO Elon Musk alleged on Tuesday. 
What Happened: &#8220;Well, obviously, the real reason that they canceled it because GM can&#8217;t make it work, not because of regulators, they&#8217;re blaming regulators,&#8221; Musk said. &#8220;That&#8217;s misleading of them to do so, because Waymo is doing just fine in those markets. So it&#8217;s just that their technology is not at par.&#8221;
The CEO was answering a question on Tesla&#8217;s earnings call on how regulatory hurdles will likely impact the company&#8217;s plans for its robotaxi product slated to be unveiled later this year. Like GM&#8217;s Origin, Tesla&#8217;s robotaxi, too, is expected to have no pedals or steering wheels. 
It is now slated to be unveiled on October 10, two months later than Musk&#8217;s initial timeline of Aug. 8. 
GM Abandons Origin: GM CEO Mary Barra said in a letter to shareholders on Tuesday that the company is abandoning its plans to build the Origin autonomous vehicle and instead focussing on using its next-generation Chevrolet Bolt for the autonomous driving operations of its Cruise unit.
&#8220;The Cruise team will also simplify their path to scale by focusing their next autonomous vehicle (AV) on the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt, instead of the Origin. This addresses the regulatory uncertainty we faced with the Origin because of its unique design. In addition, per-unit costs will be much lower, which will help Cruise optimize its resources," Barra wrote on Tuesday.
A Chevrolet spokesperson subsequently told&nbsp;<a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga</a>&nbsp;in a statement that the next generation of the Bolt EV is expected to launch late next year. However, the company has not ascertained when Cruise AVs will shift to that platform, he added.
Cruise Co-founder Responds: Cruise co-founder Kyle Vogt on Tuesday also expressed disappointment at GM abandoning Origin.
&#8220;Disappointed to see GM kill the Origin. Would have been amazing for cities,&#8221; Vogt wrote on X. Vogt stepped down as CEO of Cruise last year following the involvement of one of its robotaxis in an&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/10/35052444/self-driving-cruise-car-accident-leaves-pedestrian-trapped-and-injured-in-san-francisco" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">accident in San Francisco</a>.
Vogt also accused GM of getting in early on innovative projects, only to abandon them later and lose the lead.

Launched in January 2019, GCT started with furniture and expanded into home appliances, fitness equipment and pet products.

Adjusted diluted EPS jumped 71.4% year-over-year (YOY) to 84 cents. The company also saw a 124.7% surge in gross profit and increased gross margin to 26.5%, demonstrating improved efficiency and profitability.



GigaCloud has been rapidly growing, with more active sellers, buyers and higher spending per buyer. A 64% YOY increase in its Marketplace Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) highlights the company&rsquo;s strong B2B e-commerce position and growth potential. Strategic investments in fulfillment infrastructure, like the recent expansion of its global network <a href="https://investors.gigacloudtech.com/news-releases/news-release-details/gigacloud-technology-inc-expands-global-fulfillment-network">to over 10 million square feet,</a> enhance its capacity. The new <a href="https://investors.gigacloudtech.com/news-releases/news-release-details/gigacloud-technology-inc-launches-new-service">Branding-as-a-Service</a> (BaaS) program also strengthens seller competitiveness and boosts user engagement.



So far in 2024, GTC stock has gained 63%. Yet, it is still reasonably valued at <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GCT/key-statistics/">10 times forward earnings</a> and 1.5 times sales. Analysts are bullish on GCT stock, with a <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/markets/stocks/GCT">12-month median price forecast</a> of $46.00, indicating over a 51% potential upside.

Currently, IDV&rsquo;s trailing price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-book (P/B) ratios stand at 9x and 0.96x, respectively.
