The wait is over.
In a text message to supporters on Tuesday afternoon, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said his former 2020 primary competitor Kamala Harris is his vice-presidential pick.
"Joe Biden here. Big news: I've chosen Kamala Harris as my running mate. Together, with you, we're going to beat Trump."
Harris makes history as the first Black woman on a presidential election ticket.
In 2010, Harris became the first African American woman to be elected California attorney general. She is the second African American woman to serve in the U.S. Senate, a seat she won in 2016.
Harris dropped her bid to be the 2020 Democratic nominee back in December.
Biden and Harris will make their first appearance together Wednesday at an event in Wilmington, Delaware.
