China has sent a delegation of military personnel, tanks, and vehicles to Russia to participate in Moscow’s International Army Games next month.
What Happened: A train carrying the Chinese delegation left for Zabaikalsk in Russia from Manzhouli, Inner Mongolia in China’s north, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
The delegation will participate in Moscow’s International Army Games that are scheduled in August. First held in 2015, the event this time is being held amid the heightened tensions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Chinese PLA is expected to compete against counterparts from 37 nations at Russia’s largest multinational military exercise between August 13 and August 27. The event will be held across 12 countries, including Russia, Iran, India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, according to SCMP.
The report pointed out that the South American nation Venezuela — which parted ways with the U.S. in 2019 after President Nicolas Maduro assumed office for the second time in an election that Washington considered a “sham”— is to host a sniper competition as part of the war games.
China has been regularly participating in Army Games since 2015, and this year it will host three competitions — an infantry fighting vehicles game and a frigate race.
China-Russia Relations have bolstered over the past two decades. Both the forces have stepped up their joint military exercises since 2005, both bilaterally and through multilateral platforms.
