The Ukraine House kicked off its weeklong presence at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland with a call for assistance and contribution to United24.

Launched by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, United24 is an effort to gather charitable donations.

Thus far, Ukraine has raised $270 million used in improving defenses, administering aid, and rebuilding infrastructure.

In a video, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the audience but noted that further donations are needed.

United24 ambassadors include former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly, Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina, Uber Technologies Inc UBER CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, and football player Andriy Shevchenko made appearances last night, as well.

Kelly, who Benzinga had a chance to speak with prior to the event about his time in space, explained how, in space, “you do not see political borders.”

“The illegal and immoral invasion by Russia was a direct threat on democracy for all of us,” he said. The horrors inflicted on the innocent people and structures in Ukraine do not fall under the traditional definition of collateral damage.

Uber’s Khosrowshahi made a few comments, too, pointing out the helpfulness of the program. The ride-sharing company helped Ukraine buy ambulances and save the lives of its citizens.

“The people of Ukraine are so strong, but they can only keep strong if the world stands behind them,” the CEO ended.
