- Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed to have detected a U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) plot using previously unknown malware to penetrate specially made backdoor vulnerabilities in Apple Inc AAPL iPhones.
- The FSB identified victims involving several thousand Apple phones, including domestic Russian subscribers, Reuters reports.
- The Russian spy agency also claimed telephones belonging to foreign diplomats from Russia and the former Soviet Union, including those from NATO members, Israel, Syria, and China, as targets.

- Previously Apple drew regulatory attention for its vulnerability to NSO Group spyware.
