- Donald Trump's arrest in Georgia takes social media by storm; mugshot eclipses 2023 Super Bowl views.
- Reactions on Trump's mugshot mixed; Biden jests, "Handsome guy."
Former President Donald Trump was arrested on Thursday in Georgia, with his mugshot quickly garnering more views on X, formerly known as Twitter, than the 2023 Super Bowl.
Users said things like, "Nothing says ‘never surrender’ like sharing the mug shot taken after you surrendered yourself to Fulton Co. jail, and "He should go back to truth social."
But perhaps the best comment was from President Joe Biden. "Have you seen Donald Trump's mugshot yet?" a reporter can be heard asking Biden in a video clip posted on X.
"I did see it on television," Biden said, "handsome guy."
Biden's comments come just after a GOP debate on Wednesday, where candidates on stage were asked if they would support Trump if convicted on criminal charges.
Out of the eight contenders, Florida Gov. Rob DeSantis, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, former Vice President Mike Pence and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum visibly raised their hands.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie gave a partial hand raise, signaling potential uncertainty.
Biden also critiqued the GOP debate, according to The Hill, saying the candidates didn't talk about real issues.
"What are they going to do to deal with economic growth? What are they going to do to deal with the notion that maintaining the job pace that we have now? What are they going to do to deal with education?" Biden said.
He continued, "I don't remember them speaking to any of the issues — there was a lot of talk."
