Russian President Vladimir Putin is poised to announce his intention to run in the 2024 presidential election, a move that could see his tenure as Russia’s leader extended to 2030.
Insight from the Kremlin-aligned Kommersant newspaper, according to Reuters, suggested Putin could disclose his election intentions during the Russia International Exhibition and Forum conference, which is Nov. 4 to April 12.
The exhibition is intended to highlight Russia’s economic successes and developmental strides across various sectors.
Having held the reins of power either as president or prime minister since the close of the last millennium, Putin’s leadership outstrips that of any other Russian leader since Josef Stalin. If he throws his hat into the 2024 election ring and wins, Putin’s tenure could extend to three decades.

Election Campaign Theme: Kremlin insiders reportedly hinted at the narrative thread of Putin’s potential campaign, depicting Russia as a distinctive civilization, besieged yet unyielding, held together by societal solidarity.
Central to the theme is the present conflict with Ukraine.
The Kremlin was also assembling a roster of confidants to buttress Putin’s campaign. Prospective confidants were reportedly gauged on their support for Russia’s military operations, their public standing and their adaptability. Their "training," which involves public speaking and the meaning of election campaigns, will run October through December.
For context, Putin’s 2018 election bid was supported by at least 476 proxies, with public personalities ranging from athletes to artists.
