Meta Platforms, Inc META Instagram Threads, initially launched in the U.S. and U.K. this past July, is set to expand to users in the European Union on December 14.
Meta updated the Threads website with a countdown timer indicating the upcoming launch. This timer, showing just under six days remaining, is only visible in regions where Threads is unavailable, the Verge reports.
European Instagram users can search for "ticket" within the app to find a digital invitation to Threads, which includes a scannable QR code and a launch time that may vary by country.
The specifics of the launch, such as which EU countries will have access to Threads, are not confirmed as Meta has yet to respond to inquiries for more details.

The style of the countdown timer is similar to the one used for Threads' initial launch in July.
The delay in introducing Threads to the EU has been attributed to what Meta spokesperson Christine Pai termed "upcoming regulatory uncertainty."
This is likely because of the strict regulations under the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), which designated Meta and other tech giants like Microsoft Corp MSFT and Apple Inc AAPL as platform gatekeepers in July.
These regulations impose new rules on user consent and data protection. It's currently unclear if any modifications have been made to Threads for its EU launch to comply with these regulations.
