CNBC Fast Money contributors Guy Adami and Dan Nathan joined Danny Moses (who you may know from The Big Short) on another episode of their new podcast called On The Tape. See more about what they’re doing here.

Dan and Danny speak to their time as traders with short positions and the potential for adverse moves like this week’s short squeeze activity. Danny discusses a short ban he faced, and Dan talks about his time being on the wrong end of a Blackberry short position.

Later, Stephanie Ruhle joins the conversation to discuss similarities to prior periods of market upheaval and the role leverage plays in moments like these. They reflect on what this anti-establishment movement means for markets and what is fueling this surge in retail investing.

Danny considers potential consequences for retail investors and how they may be left in the dust by the time some of this exuberance in names like GameStop and AMC ends. “I think of Barbarians at the Gate, but I like to think about what’s going to be called ‘Bagholders at the Gate," he said, referencing the perils of leverage in the leveraged buyout of RJR Nabisco in the late 1980s.

Dan and Guy also speak to the possibility of institutional involvement, and what may result from Robinhood temporarily halting purchase activity in these names. “Robinhood was set up to democratize trading, level the playing field… and people loved the Robinhood app and then during the week we saw it: Robinhood changed the rules mid-stream and it really pissed a lot of people off," Guy said.
