Defensive Names Attractive Place To Be Today (K, GIS, MCD, PEP)

Defensive stocks are outperforming the broader market today. With around 2 hours left in Tuesday's trading session, the S&P 500 has fallen 2.53 points, or 0.24%, to 1,047.78 as investors continue to pile out of riskier assets. Some names are holding up quite well, however, including high quality defensive stocks such as McDonald's MCD, Kellogg K, General Mills GIS and Pepsico PEP. McDonald's (MCD) reported strong global same stores sales today, and the stock has jumped 0.94% to $67.38. Kellogg (K) has gained 0.77% to $53.88. The trend also continues higher in General Mills (GIS), which has added 0.63% to the big gains that it registered yesterday. GIS has now gained 7.68% in the last month. Pepsico (PEP) shares have moved 0.78% to the upside on the day. The shares are now trading hands for $62.20 apiece.
