NCIA Offers Complimentary Membership To Social Equity Cannabis Applicants, Licensees

The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) has launched a Social Equity Scholarship Program.

The goal is to seek to provide opportunities to the people most affected by the infamous war on drugs, increasing minority representation in the cannabis industry,

The scholarship is aimed at providing any social equity applicant or license-holder a one-year free membership with the NCIA, and intends to “help level the playing field by providing current and future equity operators with the networking, resources, and educational benefits offered by the nation’s largest and most established cannabis trade organization.”

The scholarship application is open now and available here.

“As a person of color who has often been the only brown person in the room during my 10 years in the marijuana reform movement, this program will help us secure a future where that won’t be the reality for others," Kaliko Castille, NCIA's director of marketing told Benzinga. “Our industry has a responsibility to acknowledge the historic ties of prohibition to systemic racism and be steadfast in the idea that we can’t allow the cannabis industry to become another tool of white supremacy.”
