'Succession' Star Brian Cox Talks About His Love For Cannabis: 'I Was Against It. Then I Realized I Was Missing Out'

By Lucía Tedesco via El Planteo

Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong play father (Logan Roy) and son (Kendall Roy) in the Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. WBD's HBO series "Succession." Apparently, Cox took his role as a father very seriously, to such an extent, that he mentored his fictional son.

The actor who plays Logan Roy on the show told Town & Country that, in the last season's finale episode, Strong did his job extremely well and that he was surprised Strong didn't get out of character when the scene was over. "He's still that guy, because he feels like, if he went somewhere else, he'd lose it. But he won't! Strong is talented. He's got a fucking gift. When you have the gift, celebrate the gift. Go back to your trailer and smoke pot," he expressed.

In his remarks, the Golden Globe winner for best actor commented that it's "fucking annoying" to be around someone who is always immersed in character. When he sent him to smoke, did he want to tell him to relax?

Brian Cox Became An Avid Marijuana User In His 50s

Cox has talked about marijuana before. He recounted that he dabbled in cannabis at age 50 because, previously, "I was very much against it... Then, I realized I was missing out on what was going on with young people because I was so square and I was working so hard. I needed something to relax. So I discovered the wonderful world of cannabis. It makes politics easier to bear. It's a way to deal with idiocy," he revealed in 2020.

He has even called for decriminalization in Scotland, his country of birth. Following this, the 76-year-old actor received strong criticism from Professor Neil McKeganey, director of the Glasgow-based Centre for Substance Misuse Research. "For Brian Cox to offer himself as the model example of cannabis use when Scotland has one of the worst drug problems anywhere on the planet is very unfortunate," McKeganey criticized. It is true that Scotland is a country that needs initiatives to curb drug abuse, but can't decriminalization be part of that road to change?
