The Montana House of Representatives is moving forward on a measure with bipartisan support that would require cannabis growers to deal with the odor around their businesses.
About The Bill
Sponsored by Rep. Jedediah Hinkle, R-Belgrade, House Bill 304 would require all indoor weed manufacturing operations to install an air filtration system or other "odor neutralization system," reported the Independent Record.
If the measure is enacted, it will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2024. Marijuana businesses will have three months to become compliant once the law goes into effect.
"This bill does not dictate what type of air filtration system needs to be installed, that would be left up to the cultivator themselves," said Hinkle. He added that it is imperative that the Legislative Assembly establishes the new measure since the state's recreational industry is still in its infancy.
The bill passed its third reading by a vote of 80-19 and is now in the Senate's first house, waiting for the first reading.
Regarding labs in the state, a Montana House panel recently focused on a series of cannabis bills regarding their role in testing marijuana samples. Under Bill HB128, laboratories under the supervision of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services would be turned over to the Department of Revenue (DOR).
