Marijuana Legalization Efforts In MN And TX, Cannabis Labs In NM & Weed Vendors In NV

As the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference returns to Miami (April 11-12) bringing together top CEOs, investors, leaders, advocates, and politicians, let's review the latest regulatory changes in the space.

Marijuana Legalization Bill Advances In Minnesota

A bill seeking to legalize marijuana in Minnesota has been introduced before the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee.

Senator Lindsey Port (D)'s legislation passed a total of 10 Senate committees, reported Marijuana Moment. “We have an opportunity to undo some of the harm that has been done and create a system of regulation that works for Minnesota consumers and businesses while ensuring an opportunity in this new market for communities that have been most affected by prohibition,” Port said.

A companion version sponsored by Rep. Zack Stephenson (D) would allow 21-year-olds to purchase and use recreational marijuana. The measure recently received the green light from the House Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee.

Cannabis On San Antonio's Upcoming Municipal Elections Ballot

The Texas Supreme Court ruled that a measure to decriminalize small amounts of cannabis within city limits will be on the May 6 ballot, reported a local media news outlet.

“If adopted, the proposed 'Justice Policy' would amend the City Charter, purportedly to prohibit local enforcement of certain state laws related to marijuana possession,” reads the state’s Supreme Court ruling.

Cannabis Lab Testing In New Mexico

The New Mexico Cannabis Control Division announced delays in implementing "a rule around collecting cannabis products for testing," reported The Business Journals.

According to the CCD, “when the Division determines the time in which sample collection will be conducted by cannabis testing labs, the division will give ample notice to the labs and the licensees prior to the effective date."

However, “with over 2,000 licenses, there is not enough infrastructure in place to do this type of sampling,” said Barry Dungan, CEO of Albuquerque-based cannabis testing lab Rio Grande Analytics.

A Bill To Buy Cannabis At Events In Las Vegas

Cannabis vendors in Carson City, Las Vegas, could be assured of their spot at local events if a new marijuana bill passes in the state. The bill establishes permits for vendors to sell marijuana at certain events. To do this, they would have to apply for licenses from the state cannabis board and local jurisdictions.

However, they would only be allowed to resell products they have purchased from dispensaries.
