Navigating the world of CBD products can be confusing, especially when it comes to determining the right dosage. We spoke with Dr. Chris Adlakha of Elevated Wellness to shed some light on this important topic and help consumers make informed decisions about their CBD use.
According to Dr. Adlakha, there are no regulated guidelines for CBD dosing, making it difficult to pinpoint an "average" dose. Everyone's body composition and sensitivities to cannabinoids vary, so finding the appropriate dosage is a matter of trial and error.
"It is recommended to start at lower doses (i.e. 10-25mg) and then dose up slowly to find the 'sweet spot'," he explains.
While there isn't necessarily an average CBD dose, many products on the market suggest around 25mg as a starting point. Dr. Adlakha reiterates that finding the right dose is crucial, as "taking too little will have no effect and taking too much could have an adverse effect." He adds that body composition is the most important factor in determining the ideal dosage, and the severity of the condition being treated may require more or less CBD to achieve relief.
When asked about dosing recommendations for specific conditions like anxiety, chronic pain, and sleep, Dr. Adlakha explains that it depends on the individual's body composition. Based on his experience, lower doses are generally more effective for anxiety and stress, while medium to high doses are often used for chronic pain and sleep. For example, people with minor back pain may benefit from 75-150mg of CBD, whereas those with severe back pain might require 200mg or more. As for sleep, Dr. Adlakha says that most individuals using CBD for this purpose typically take medium-high doses, ranging from 75-100mg.
For those just starting a CBD regimen, Dr. Adlakha offers some valuable advice. He emphasizes the importance of checking where the CBD comes from and ensuring the product has been third-party tested to minimize impurities. He also advises consumers to ask for a copy of the Certificate of Analysis, which provides detailed information on the product's quality and contents.
Finding the right CBD dosage can be a personal journey that depends on an individual's unique body composition and the specific condition being treated. Starting with a low dose and gradually increasing it can help consumers discover their "sweet spot" for optimal results. Additionally, paying close attention to the quality and purity of CBD products can ensure a safer and more effective experience. As Dr. Chris Adlakha of Elevated Wellness reminds us, understanding one's own needs and being informed about CBD products are key to unlocking the potential benefits of this versatile compound.
