CT State's Attorney Drops Charges On More Than 1,500 Cannabis Cases
Connecticut prosecutors led by Chief State Attorney Patrick J. Griffin have dropped charges on over 1,500 pending drug-possession cases after reviewing over 4000, reported CT Insider.
Of the 4,248 cases, 1,773 substances other than cannabis, Griffin wrote in a letter to the committee last week. In addition, 624 cases will be amended, excluding cannabis from the overall charges.
The move builds upon Governor Ned Lamont's (D) recent announcement that thousands of Connecticut residents convicted of cannabis possession will have their records cleared in an automated erasure method following the policy reform in 2021.
The General Assembly's Judiciary Committee is working on a bill to reconsider cannabis-related offenses. HB 6787 would order review sentencing hearings for residents serving time on marijuana-related charges and "potentially discharge them or release them on probation if good cause is shown."
Phoenix Inspectors Sniffing Out Mysterious "Skunk" Smell On Freeway
Phoenix officials are investigating two marijuana facilities in the vicinity of Interstate 10 and 24th Street following complaints about a "skunk" smell on the freeway, reported AZFamily.
"I don't like the smell," Freddy Vargas, one of the workers in the area, told the local outlet." It smells like skunk weed."
One of the businesses in question is a retailer dubbed JARS Cannabis, while the other is a cultivation operation with marijuana being grown in a warehouse.
Oregon Town Becomes An Oasis For Idaho Cannabis Enthusiasts
Idahoans looking to buy recreational marijuana are doing it in neighboring Oregon, where the plant is legal, writes High Times.
However, that's causing Oregon operators like Ontario-based Hotbox Farms to hardly serve the city's 11,600 residents, with more than 700,000 potential customers living in Boise.
"There [are] over a million people within a hundred-mile radius of the store," Meland added. "Of course, they are serving a broader market."
Currently, cannabis is entirely illegal in Idaho for any use. To that end, House Health and Welfare Committee Chairman John Vander Woude (R) filed a bill last month in the Idaho House of Representatives that aims to authorize the use of medical marijuana for people diagnosed with various health conditions.
Cannabis Dispensary Dispute: Canadian Court Should Respect Regulator's Decision
A Canadian retailer took the Yukon Cannabis Licensing Board to court last month after the regulatory body rejected to issue a license the cannabis company required due to the store being too close to two Yukon Montessori School locations on First Avenue and Keish Street in downtown Whitehorse.
Community Cannabis Inc. filed in the Yukon Supreme Court on March 24 a request for judicial review and reversal of the board's decision.
In response to the company's request, the board then said that the court shouldn't interfere with its decision, reported CBC Canada.
The hearing date is yet to be scheduled.
