Snoop Dogg wants what he wants. He says he’ll “put his foot in the town” if other bidders for the NHL’s Ottawa Senators manage to push him out. Apparently, he is vying with at least a dozen others with the same idea, including Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, who played Marvel anti-hero Deadpool in several movies.
Snoop assured The Athletic in an interview that his sudden interest in purchasing the Senators is not a publicity stunt. He’s for real.
“This ain’t no joke or no gimmick,” Snoop Dogg said. “Or an image or likeness play. This is a real ownership play.”
What’s The Attraction To Ottawa?
“I want Ottawa because Ottawa wants me. It’s a thriving city. The team is going to make a U-turn once we get ownership. The players are inspired. The community is inspired. I felt like this is what Ottawa needs,” said Snoop though he has no plans to move there if he wins the bid.
“When you go around the world as much as I have, there are certain places that stick out in your heart. Everywhere I go in Canada, it’s always been love, but there’s something about Ottawa. And the opportunity for the team to be bought? It’s impeccable timing right now.”
Actually, Snoop's already got a business interest north of the border. The Canada-based weed company, Atlas Global Brands AGBIF recently signed an exclusive international licensing agreement with Snoop Dogg.
Hockey, Snoop And A New Breed Of Players
“I’ve been watching hockey for about 25 years now, and I’m watching more and more kids that look like me play the game, but I’m not seeing it being offered to the kids over here in America,” Snoop Dogg said Tuesday on ESPN’s “First Take” where he spoke with Stephen A. Smith about pushing hockey at the grassroots level and getting a more diverse crowd involved. “And then the plan that we have is to also go and build a Snoop Youth hockey league outside of Canada, so kids in urban communities can learn about hockey, can play the sport, and find ways to get into this great thing that’s called hockey.”
The inclusion of Snoop Dogg in the bid for the Senators is the latest twist in the team’s sale since it became official in November, with the requirement that the team needed to remain in Ottawa.
