RI Gov. Elects 3 Experts To Keep Rhode Island's Cannabis Market Regulated & Licensed

Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee has appointed three experts to the Cannabis Control Commission to be responsible for regulation, licensing and control of the medical and recreational cannabis markets in the state.

The move comes after five licensed medical cannabis compassion centers kicked off recreational marijuana sales in December 2022.

According to a press release, McKee's nominees who "bring diverse and relevant experience" are:

  • Kimberly Ahern, current deputy chief of staff for the office of Gov. McKee and deputy counsel for the office of former Gov. Gina Raimondo, will chair the board;
  • Robert Jacquard, an attorney who served for 22 years with the Cranston Police Department and as a state representative from 1993 until 2021; and
  • Layi Oduyingbo, the owner, founder and managing attorney at a law firm in Cranston with experience in compliance and governance matters.

WEED Australia Strengthens Board Of Directors With New Appointments

Cannabis and hemp bioresearch company WEED Inc. BUDZ has appointed Amanda Brunskill-Scott and Nicole Breen as members of the board of directors as it received its hemp cultivation license from the state of Arizona.

Brunskill-Scott agreed to serve as the company's in-house counsel for both WEED Australia Limited and the Cannabis Institute of Australia.

She is an advocate for the indigenous peoples of Australia and grew up in the Northern Territory, and her appointment represents the company's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

With the appointment of Brunskill-Scott and Breen, WEED Australia Limited, as a majority-owned subsidiary of WEED Inc (USA), will continue to grow as a global cannabis holding company, the company said on Wednesday.

Simply Better Names New Board Member

Simply Better Brands Corp. SBBC announced last week that at the annual general and special meeting on May 12, 2023, shareholders elected Paul Norman, Kathy Casey, Michael Galloro, J.R. Kingsley Ward and Richard Kellam‎ to the board of directors.

The Vancouver-based company also tapped Richard Kellam, president and CEO of Data Communications Management Corp., to serve on its board of directors.

Kellam brings a vast experience in general management, customer development and marketing experience through his 35-year international career with leading global companies, with positions at Robin Hood Multifoods, Molson Breweries, The William Wrigley Company and Mars Inc.

Avicanna Elects Directors

Avicanna Inc. AVCN AVCNF 0NN said recently that announce that all of management's nominees listed in the company's management information circular dated April 14 were elected as directors at its annual general and special meeting of shareholders held on earlier this week.

The company's board of directors now counts five members, including:

  • Dr. Chandrakant Panchal
  • Aras Azadian
  • Giancarlo Davila Char
  • Eileen McCormack
  • John McVicar
