Alexa Alianiello from Twitter recently turned heads at the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Miami with her explanation about the landmark change to Twitter's advertising policy, which now allows cannabis brands to advertise on the platform.
It was a moment of "making history," as Alianiello described it, that underscored Twitter's evolving stance on the cannabis industry.
"We made history this year a couple of weeks ago when we became the first-ever social media platform to allow for cannabis advertising," Alianiello proclaimed, highlighting Twitter's groundbreaking step.
She further explained the implications of the change: "So what we did was we made some meaningful changes to policy that would enable brands to bring forward brand preference and informational content that would drive directly into e-commerce experiences for THC, for CBD and for ancillary tech products and services. This was the most inclusive ads policy that you'll see across the industry landscape."
Alianiello emphasized the value of the change for the cannabis industry, stating that it "creates a scalable, differentiated and new marketing channel for cannabis." This unprecedented policy change effectively positions Twitter as a hub for cannabis advertising.

Alianiello noted that Twitter's relationship with cannabis extends beyond just advertising, stating, "Advertising is just one cannabinoid in the entourage effect that is Twitter." She urged the audience to consider how the platform's influence could be harnessed to drive growth, elevate discourse, change perceptions, and advance progress in the cannabis industry.
