Crackdown On Illicit Cannabis Operators: New York's Bold New Strategy

New York regulators voted to allow cannabis at farmer’s markets—déjà vu—while doubling the amount of provisional retail licenses. This comes amidst their latest iteration of an “aggressive crackdown” on the thousands of illicit operators and their continued Heisman toward the state-legal medical operators that would provide an immediate albeit partial solution to NY’s pervasive cannabis woes.

There was a report that wholesale prices across the land have seemingly stabilized, up marginally on the aggregate vs. the end of 2022, although we know the U.S. landscape is the definition of non-linear given the splintered state-level systems ahead of a legal framework for interstate commerce. Pockets of pricing power have emerged, while there is saturation in other regions; the laws, regulations and taxes remain FUBAR.

DC lawmakers have again filed amendments to allow the VA to recommend medical marijuana for military veterans, which is inexplicably still a thing. NJ is rolling back its plan to prioritize people with convictions for licenses for a year. THC drinks are shipping across state lines. It was eerily quiet on the SAFE banking front as we ready for the final countdown. And, we may have uncovered the source of some of the recent sell-side pressure.

All of that, and more, just scroll down…
