Actress Jamie Lee Curtis Opens Up About Her Addiction, Sobriety Journey And Devastating Fentanyl Crisis

In a recent interview with MSNBC, actress Jamie Lee Curtis opened up about her personal struggle with addiction and talked about the dangerous fentanyl epidemic in the U.S.

The Oscar winner for best supporting actress in “Everything Everywhere All At Once” used her name to support the SAG actors' strike and defend trans rights.

"If fentanyl was as easily available as it is today, I would be dead," he told host Joe Scarborough of MSNBC, Smoda reported. It turns out that Curtis experienced opioid addiction. It’s been over 20 years since she’s stayed away from alcohol and drugs.

Fentanyl is causing over 2,000 deaths a week in the U.S. alone. This has ignited alerts, but there seems not to be a solution yet. That is why spokespeople like Jamie Lee Curtis tell their stories to highlight the issue that is affecting people around the world.

Actress, producer and children's book author, Curtis was addicted to opioids for ten years, beginning in 1989 after having had plastic surgery. She says she feels fortunate to have made it out alive and avoided arrest all those years.

"Getting sober remains my single greatest accomplishment...even bigger than my husband, both of my children and bigger than any work, success, failure," she told Variety.

Although Jamie Lee Curtis is enjoying a healthy phase in her life, she says she'll never forget those years when she was addicted to opioids. She recognizes that her celebrity gives her a position from which to spread the word, which is why she finds it important to step out of her role as an entertainer and position of fame to show her human side and offer others a message of support.
