WM Technology, Inc. known as Weedmaps MAPS, and WTG Enterprises, the production company behind the long-standing stoner comic series 'The Freak Brothers,' have announced a strategic partnership to further destigmatize and celebrate cannabis culture.
"Weedmaps has always aimed to elevate stoner culture, break down stereotypes, and bring cannabis to the forefront of mainstream conversations," stated Weedmaps CMO Randa McMinn, who is a featured speaker at the upcoming Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Chicago, Sept. 27-28. Alongside other industry experts, McMinn will delve into the topic of "Building a Strong Digital Presence for Cannabis Brands."
About The Partnership
The collaboration will encompass in-episode integrations of Weedmaps within the second half of the upcoming Season 2 of ‘The Freak Brothers’, commencing on September 24, 2023. "(...)15 years later, to see the Freak Brothers' characters themselves embrace Weedmaps as their 'go to' for weed in the series is indicative of society's broader acceptance of the plant and the industry at large," said McMinn.
Greg Goldner, chief brand and strategy officer of The Freak Brothers, said: “We’re excited about this partnership as it’s a convergence of the psychedelic past and the digital present, and I have no doubt that if Weedmaps was around in the 1960s, The Freak Brothers would have been their most valuable customers.”
The partnership will also feature exclusive ‘Smoke & Screen’ events across the U.S., bringing together industry influencers and tastemakers at the crossroads of cannabis and entertainment, according to a press release procured by Benzinga.
About The Series
Adapted from Gilbert Shelton’s iconic underground comic series, ‘The Freak Brothers’ commemorates its 55th anniversary this year.
Season 2 will feature a notable voice cast, including Woody Harrelson, John Goodman, Pete Davidson, Tiffany Haddish, Adam Devine, Blake Anderson, Andrea Savage, La La Anthony, ScHoolboy Q and a special guest appearance by Joe Sikora.
The series revolves around the adventures of three anti-establishment stoner characters and their feline companion, who awaken after a 50-year slumber induced by a magical strain of weed. In the modern setting of San Francisco, they navigate life with a new family while indulging in marijuana-fueled escapades.
Season 2's episodes will see the Freaks embarking on a range of misadventures, from their high school reunion to encounters with figures like Meta Platforms Inc. META CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, as well as a comedic showdown with Seth Rogen in a Pot Brownie Bake-Off competition.
Price Action: Weedmaps shares closed Wednesday's market session 0.00% neutral at $1.14 per share.
