In an innovative collaboration, recycling company Epic Cleantec and brewery Devil's Canyon teamed up to produce a sustainable beer from recycled water. This is happening in San Francisco, in line with their efforts to maximize the reuse of water resources.

The new Epic OneWater Brew contains recycled water, which comes from showers, sinks and laundry facilities in a 39-story complex. The promotion of this product is part of a sustainable approach to addressing the issue of responsible water use in the brewing industry.

"We wanted to do something fun that would be an engaging tool to talk to people, to get them excited, but also show the untapped potential of water reuse," explained Aaron Tartakovsky, CEO and co-founder of Epic Cleantec, as per La Capital MDP.

How Water Is Purified To Make Beer

The first thing is to filter the water and then purify it. The process is carried out with an ultrafine membrane, which is disinfected with chlorine and ultraviolet light. Once this water treatment phase is completed, the liquid is transported in gallons to the brewery, where the artisanal product is brewed and packaged.

While this is a product that has yet to go on sale, it apparently has the go-ahead because of the Water Reuse Act, pushed by San Francisco to maximize water resources. In addition, the beer has already been presented at special events, such as the United Nations Water Conference.

So far, more than 7,500 liters of water have been purified to make about 7,500 cans of beer, according to Pulso Cervecero. "Many people, at first and understandably, were skeptical of the project or hesitant to try it. But I would say 99% (...) once they tried it, they were enthusiastic," Tartakovsky revealed.
