Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is miffed by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) decision to change the dress code to allow more casual attire in the chamber during sessions.
DeSantis went straight for Sen. John Fetterman, (D-PA), after Schumer's statement to CBS News said, "Senators are able to choose what they wear on the Senate floor. I will continue to wear a suit." In fact, Sen. Fetterman also wears a suit on the Senate floor.
DeSantis Offended By Fetterman's Hoodies
The Florida governor and struggling GOP presidential candidate seems to have diagnosed Sen. Fetterman as having “a lot of problems” and therefore wears “sweatshirts, and hoodies, and shorts.”
“The US Senate just eliminated its dress code because you got this guy from Pennsylvania (Fetterman) who’s got a lot of problems,” DeSantis said on the campaign trail. “He wears, like, sweatshirts and hoodies and shorts…We need to be lifting up our standards in this country, not dumbing down," said DeSantis.
“To show up in the United States Senate with that, and not have the decency to put on proper attire, I think it’s disrespectful to the body,” DeSantis said, adding that it speaks “very poorly” of the Senate to accommodate Fetterman's outfits.
Fetterman's response? “I dress like he campaigns,” Fetterman said.

Fetterman, former lieutenant governor of PA who supports cannabis legalization, defeated TV personality and Trump ally Mehmet Oz in the 2022 Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race by a whopping 260,000 votes. The victory flipped the seat blue after previously being held by Republican Pat Toomey.
