California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed three cannabis-related bills, wrapping up his work on a series of marijuana and drug policy legislation passed this year.

New Cannabis Legislation

These new laws encompass SB 833, enabling cannabis cultivators to modify their license type, AB 1448, channeling civil penalties away from unlicensed marijuana businesses to local treasurers, and AB 993, broadening the state marijuana task force with representatives from the Civil Rights Department and Department of Industrial Relations to improve communication between state and local cannabis regulators.

Broad Spectrum of Cannabis Regulations

Additionally, Newsom approved other bills relating to marijuana use inquiries for job applicants, equity, tracking, testing and licensing.

Governor's Vetoed Cannabis Bills

The governor vetoed bills including SB 58, which aimed to legalize the possession and cultivation of certain psychedelics, AB 374, which sought to permit marijuana cafes, and AB 1207, which proposed new restrictions on marijuana product packaging deemed attractive to children.
