Medical Marijuana Clinic In Ireland Now Open For Eligible Patients

Medicinal cannabis clinic, Medicann, is launching a clinic in Ireland and is now accepting patients who would like to check if they are eligible for treatment with medical marijuana. Medicann says this is the first clinic of this type in the country since medical cannabis became legal in June 2019.

The new clinic covers all conditions treatable with medicinal cannabis, and not just those

recognized by the Ireland’s Medical Cannabis Access Programme.

The news comes on the heels of Ireland’s Citizens Assembly on Drugs Use vote in favor of a new health-led approach to drugs and illegal substances.

Through a virtual appointment, via a secured telehealth portal, Medicann offers services of assessing patients’ eligibility to be prescribed medicinal cannabis which comes in various forms flowers, oils and topical creams to help patients. Medicann's first clinic opened in 2019.

"When medicinal cannabis first became legalized in the UK back in 2018, early on I saw the potential it had to improve the quality of life for patients and we have been providing access to this natural medication for patients that are eligible for the last 4 years,” Gary Whipp, CEO of Medicann Ireland stated. "As the first clinic to launch in Ireland, we know patients have been waiting for local access to this medication, and we are very much looking forward to helping patients manage their condition better, and improve their quality of life under the guidance and help of our specialist Doctors here at Medicann"

Research shows that medicinal cannabis may be helpful for treating a variety of conditions including chronic pain, mental health and female conditions such as endometriosis. It is also prescribed to patients suffering from multiple sclerosis and may help to alleviate symptoms such as sleep problems, improving spasticity and alleviating pain.

In Ireland, there are currently more than 9,000 people diagnosed with MS, and through the government's Medicinal Cannabis Access Programme, qualifying patients can apply for funding to cover the cost of medicinal cannabis.
