New York’s Cannabis Retail Footprint Grows

As more legal weed shops are slated to kick off sales in New York now that the state Cannabis Control Board (CCB) has achieved a critical breakthrough in overcoming a legal impasse obstructing the establishment of numerous cannabis dispensaries this week, a few retailers have already got their cannabis shops up and running.

Dazed Cannabis’ Grand Opening Event

Dazed Cannabis, the Black and veteran-owned dispensary held its official grand opening in Union Square earlier this month, after initially opening as a pop-up in spring 2023 as part of New York State's CAURD program.

"This isn't just about a dispensary; it's about leveling the playing field, creating opportunities, and building a more inclusive and dynamic entrepreneurial landscape. Keshawn's journey shows why programs like this are essential," Chris Webber, of New York Social Equity Cannabis Investment Fund, commented on the opening.

Shinnecock Indian Nation’s Little Beach Harvest Celebrates Store Opening

Meanwhile, the Shinnecock Indian Nation, a federally recognized Native American tribe living on their traditional lands on the eastern end of Long Island, celebrated the grand opening of Little Beach Harvest on Wednesday, Nov. 15, with a traditional ceremony and ribbon cutting.

The 5,000-square-foot cannabis dispensary is located at 56 Montauk Highway in Southampton, marking the first tribally-owned and operated, tax-free cannabis dispensary in Suffolk County.

“Our shop will offer the world our culture, honor this sacred plant, increase awareness, and provide resources for all. For Tribal nations like ours, this is how we build economic sustainability,” said Chenae Bullock, managing director of the shop and Tribal citizen of the Shinnecock Nation.

Good Grades Re-Opens In Jamaica, Queens

Good Grades, Queens’ 4,000 sq. ft. recreational cannabis dispensary in Jamaica, reopened earlier this month, following an extensive $1 million renovation. As New York’s inaugural woman-owned establishment, Good Grades embodies innovation and inclusivity in the cannabis industry.

Located at 162-03 Jamaica Avenue, Good Grades is dedicated to providing educational information and tools to encourage the community to make informed choices surrounding cannabis consumption.

Ohio’s New Cannabis Store Opens As Voters Approve Weed Legalization

In Ohio, following a voter-approved initiative, known as Issue 2, that legalized adult-use cannabis, the Republican-led state General Assembly introduced House Bill 341 on Tuesday, the first so far that would change Issue 2, which 57% of Ohio voters passed on November 7.

As GOP legislators are trying to tweak the much-anticipated policy change, cannabis multi-state operators are lining up to seize the new opportunity.

On Monday, AYR Wellness Inc. AYR AYRWF announced the opening of AYR Dispensary Dayton, the third AYR location in Ohio and first in Dayton, following the recent openings of AYR Woodmere in Cleveland and AYR Goshen in Cincinnati.

Located at 4918 Airway Road, Riverside, Ohio 45431, the 5,500 sq. ft. store is conveniently positioned near the National Museum of the US Air Force for those seeking a premium cannabis experience in the Dayton Metropolitan Area.

Cannabis Retail Giant Expands In Canada

Cannabis retail giant High Tide Inc. HITI HITI 2LYA opened its doors on two more Canna Cabana stores, 158th  and 159th  nationwide.

Located at 20th Street West in Saskatoon, the shop kicked off recreational cannabis sales on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Canna Cabana retail cannabis store located at 481 River Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba will begin selling recreational cannabis products and consumption accessories for adult use on Friday, December 1, 2023.

The latest store openings follow the company’s announcement on Monday that it’s acquiring certain assets of Canadian Cannabis Media Corp. related to its store located at 1208 Davie Street in Vancouver for $1.33 million, paid via a combination of High Tide shares and cash under a definitive agreement.

The site includes assets of a completely outfitted store under the Canna Cabana brand, allowing the Alberta-based Company to open with minimal incremental costs. 

The closing of the transaction brings High Tide to a total of 8 Canna Cabana retail cannabis stores in British Columbia, which is the maximum number of stores allowed to operate by any one entity in the province.
