Cameron Diaz, Drug Mule? 'What The F*ck Is In This Suitcase?'

Before becoming a household name for her lead role in "The Mask" (1994), Cameron Diaz had an unsettling experience that hinted at drug trafficking in Morocco.

In a revealing conversation on the "Second Life" podcast, Diaz reminisced about her early '90s days, struggling to find work as a model in Paris. Her journey took an alarming turn when she seemingly became involved in a suspicious job. Diaz vividly described this period, saying, "I was there a full year, and I didn’t work one day. I couldn’t book a job to save my life."

Her break in the modeling world seemed to come when she was hired for a job in Morocco, which involved carrying a locked suitcase, allegedly containing outfits for a fashion show. Diaz expressed her concern about the situation, reflecting, "All of the calculations in my head went running back, like ‘what the f*ck is in this suitcase?’ I’m this blond-haired, blue-eyed girl in Morocco, it’s the ’90s, I’m wearing torn jeans and platform boots and my hair down, and this is really unsafe".

Listening to her instincts, Diaz chose not to complete the task. She informed the authorities that she had no knowledge about the suitcase's contents, a decision that potentially saved her from a minimum of ten years in prison for drug trafficking.

Within weeks of this incident, Diaz's career trajectory changed dramatically. She was approached for an audition for "The Mask" alongside Jim Carrey, marking the beginning of her successful acting career.

Post-Hollywood, Diaz has embraced a life away from the limelight. After starring in numerous hit films, she retired to focus on her personal life, including starting a family. In 2020, at 47, she welcomed her first child with husband Benji Madden. Although she considered returning to acting with a role in Netflix's "Back in Action," Diaz ultimately prioritized her family over the demanding filming schedule.

Her pre-Hollywood life also includes interactions with Snoop Dogg during their high school years. Both attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles, where Diaz recalls Snoop, then known as Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., being a distinct presence with his tall, slim frame and ponytail hairstyles.
