Over the last several years, Europe has become more open-minded about medical and recreational marijuana. Here are some of the latest cannabis developments from Germany, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Italy.

Germany: Bundestag To Decide On Cannabis Law Amendments As Industry Grows Popular

This week two expert hearings were held on the proposal to amend the Consumer Cannabis Act and the Medical Cannabis Act and amendments to the Road Traffic Act, writes Business of Cannabis.

Considering road traffic law changes the majority agreed on increasing the THC limit for drivers except for the conservative Union Fraction (CDU/CSU) which brought forth a motion against the proposal. In regards to the CanG and MedCanG law amendments, industry experts slammed the overregulation of cannabis cultivation association arguing that it could empower the illegal market. The Police union, on the other hand, said that cannabis legalization in the country seems like an immature project while medical associations urged for more prevention initiatives aimed at protecting youth.

Both proposed amendments were previously discussed in the Bundestag some six weeks after cannabis in Germany became legal. The Bundestag is set to vote on this draft law on Thursday, June 6th.

Meanwhile, personal marijuana growing is becoming popular, as a recent YouGov poll revealed that as many as 7% of participants have already bought cannabis clones and seeds. Legalization took effect on April 1.

The poll surveyed 3,375 German adults, out of which 11% responded that they plan to purchase cannabis clones or seeds in the future, in addition to 7% who already did.

Meanwhile, German scientists recently researched survival time rates among palliative cancer patients treated with medical marijuana products containing THC. The study published in the journal Medical Cannabis and Cannabinoids revealed that the daily use of 5mg of oral THC is connected with increased survival times in palliative cancer patients, reported NORML.

Slovenia: To Vote On Medical Marijuana And Personal Possession And Cultivation

On June 9, Slovenia citizens will have a chance to vote on referendums on medical marijuana as well as personal cultivation and possession, writes Cannabis Now. Does this mean that Slovenia has a chance to become the next European country to legalize cannabis? It is possible, though even if citizens approve the proposal there's still a possibility that Slovenia's government will not adopt it.

Italy: The Government Takes Aims Against Industrial Hemp

The Italian government is working hard against industrial hemp with legislation that would eliminate CBD and all other products derived from the plant's flowers, reported Hemp Today. The proposal would ban hemp flowers from "import, processing, possession, transfer, distribution, trade, transport, dispatch, delivery, sale to the public and for consumption, even in semi-finished, dried or shredded form," according to a draft amendment to the country's Security Bill.

Leading trade group Federcanapa called this proposal a "grotesque crackdown."

Luxembourg: Searching For Cannabis Sellers Amid Supply Shortages

The medical marijuana industry continues to face supply shortages. The health ministry recently confirmed that the supply issues have been once again caused by production delays, but that all three categories are currently available, writes Luxtimes. To avoid future supply troubles the country is planning to post a call for tender for a vendor later this year.
