The German cannabis market is being shaken by its entrepreneurs. In this case, the Frankfurt-based Bloomwell Group GmbH has announced the creation of Germany's largest centralized digital platform for medical cannabis. The platform, aimed at patients, physicians, pharmacies and wholesalers offers comprehensive services, including prescription cannabis home delivery.
"We're excited to spearhead the transformation of Germany's medical cannabis industry, which had been fragmented and limited by a lack of digital services," said Niklas Kouparanis, CEO and co-founder of the Bloomwell Group. "The Bloomwell platform is a game-changer, both for scaling and expanding access to medical cannabis in Germany and for the healthcare system as a whole."
Bloomwell Group, previously operating through its subsidiaries Grüne Brise and Algea Care, is now integrating these operations into a unified platform. Grüne Brise is the first and largest marketplace for cannabis pharmacies, while Algea Care is Europe's leading cannabis telemedicine platform.
“We want to ease any burdens for medical cannabis patients and remove bottlenecks faced by doctors and pharmacies," Kouparanis stated in a press release shared with Benzinga. "Our platform is designed to minimize administrative tasks for physicians and enable pharmacies to effectively supply patients with medical cannabis, reducing logistical and administrative hurdles."
This integration includes a physicians-operated system to scale treatment and a data-backed pharmaceutical logistics system, connecting with major wholesalers to ensure distribution and home delivery… and the company promises a 24-hour time frame for this.
Digitalization Of German Medical Marijuana
Bloomwell's platform includes a user-friendly app that digitizes the entire medical cannabis process, offering e-prescriptions while ensuring transparency, reliability and efficiency in patient care. The company has also partnered with D-Trust, a subsidiary of the Bundesdruckerei Group, to ensure secure verification of e-prescriptions, protecting patient data and ensuring prescription integrity.
The new digital infrastructure aims to support a rapidly growing number of medical cannabis patients and optimize the supply chain for pharmacies and wholesalers. This system is expected to handle up to 100,000 patients per month by the end of 2024.
"The progressive new regulations that went into effect under CanG have significantly simplified the process for prescribing medical cannabis. We want to make the most of these forward-thinking developments with the Bloomwell platform," said Kouparanis. "Patients can now receive their cannabis medicine from pharmacies of their choice within 24 hours after they have started their treatment.”
The German Cannabis Space
Germany’s journey towards cannabis legalization is a significant development in Europe. In April 2024, Germany’s landmark CanG law took effect, reclassifying cannabis as a non-narcotic and enabling doctors to prescribe it like any other medication. The move positioned Germany as a leader in the European cannabis market, becoming the third EU country to legalize cannabis and the most relevant population in terms of economy.
This important regulatory change was discussed on a recent episode of Cannabis Insider, in which Anna Kouparanis, sister of Niklas and co-founder of the Bloomwell Group said. "Cannabis prescriptions will be a lot easier, you won’t have to be chronically ill anymore or have a severe diagnosis, you can basically get it for three days of a headache." As Kouparanis’ prediction came to pass, this modification has significantly increased the number of medical cannabis patients, with Bloomwell Group experiencing a 1000% surge in new patients in April 2024 compared to the previous year.

Germany Leads The Way, Others Are Following
The partial legalization in Germany is seen as a game-changer for the European cannabis ecosystem, expected to catalyze further legal and regulatory changes across the continent. This legislative change comes amid a broader European trend towards cannabis legalization and regulation, in which Slovenia has already taken a stand. As Germany leads the way, other countries are likely to follow, transforming the European cannabis market landscape and creating new opportunities for businesses and users alike.
