Trulieve Expands Amidst Battle To Legalize Weed

As support to legalize recreational cannabis is growing in Florida, medical cannabis giant Trulieve Cannabis Corp. TRUL TCNNF continues to ramp up its retail footprint.

On Monday, July 1, the company opened two new shops selling medical marijuana in Madison and Panama City. The grand opening celebrations at both locations are scheduled for Friday, July 5.

Trulieve Madison, located at 456 W Base St., and Trulieve Panama City, located at 1020 E 23rd St., will be offering walk-in and express pickup service.

The Tallahassee also plans to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the 5679 S Suncoast Blvd store in Homosassa the same day.

“We are thrilled to offer patients in these communities new, convenient locations where they can rely on Trulieve’s high-quality products and outstanding customer service,” Kim Rivers, the company's CEO, said in a press release.

The company added the information about the #YesOn3 ballot initiative for adult use will be available. Trulieve has reportedly spent more than $40 million to get Smart & Safe Florida's marijuana legalization measure on this year’s ballot.

Safe & Smart recently reported it has raised over $60 million, as opposed to Governor Ron DeSantis' Florida Freedom Fund that aims to help defeat two the ballot initiatives up for a vote this November: marijuana legalization and expanding abortion access. DeSantis' campaign faces a fundraising disadvantage, having raised only $10,000.

Martha’s Vineyard Weed Dispensary Reopens

Last week, cannabis retail shop Island Time reopened following a legal saga around Massachusetts' stringent regulations prohibiting the transportation of cannabis products across state territorial waters. Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) recently issued an administrative order permitting the first-ever maritime transport of state-legal cannabis, reported the Martha’s Vineyard Times.

The shop was previously temporarily closed starting in May as Geoff Rose, owner of Island Time, wasn't able to get or grow cannabis, considering the transportation of cannabis over federal and state water or by plane is restricted by law. Rose, then sued the state regulator to allow it to transport the products from the mainland to the Island.
