Recreational marijuana sales will begin across Ohio on Tuesday, Aug. 6 with dozens of shops opening their doors first thing in the morning. Ohioans voted last November to legalize marijuana for adults over 21.

Nearly 100 existing medical marijuana dispensaries have received licenses to begin sales bright and early on Tuesday morning to sell cannabis to adults over 21.

It's not completely clear how many dispensaries will be ready to open. The Division of Cannabis Control announced Monday that some are still dealing with staffing or inventory issues.

We do know that Ohio’s law is set up to treat marijuana like alcohol — that is, be over 21 and have a valid ID. And, you don’t have to be from Ohio either. So, expect visitors from neighboring Kentucky and Indiana.

Adults over 21 to buy and possess up to 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of cannabis and to grow up to six plants per individual or 12 plants per household.

Who's Joining The Party Tuesday?

Among the multi-state operators (MSOs) there's Verano Holdings (Cboe CA: VRNO) VRNOF, which will open at four of its five statewide Zen Leaf retail locations around Ohio, the company announced.

"Today marks a significant step forward for Ohio, and the nation at large, as we celebrate the end of cannabis prohibition and turn the page on a new chapter that will deliver countless benefits for the Buckeye State in the form of job creation, economic development, investment, state and local revenue, and social progress," said George Archos, Verano founder and CEO.

Klutch Cannabis, one of the Midwest’s already popular brands will open in several locations across Ohio.

Then we have Florida-based Trulieve TRUL TCNNF, the Cannabist Company (under the Columbia Care and gLeaf brands), Curaleaf Holdings CURLF, Rise Dispensaries and the cannabis retail chain owned Green Thumb Industries GTBIF, whose founder and CEO Ben Kovler also sounded delighted in a press release. “Our team is honored to celebrate this historic milestone with the people of Ohio as the Buckeye State kicks off legal cannabis sales."

Pharmacann and Vext Science (an Herbal Wellness Center) are also scheduled to open in Ohio on Aug. 6.

Ohio's News5Cleveland was kind enough to provide a full list of companies and locations of where you can buy weed on Tuesday, beginning as early as 7:00 am.

Stay tuned, the party's just getting started.
