  • Business people are finding magic mushroom retreats to be beneficial, as witnessed by skyrocketing booking rates.
  • Attendees seek to advance their self-understanding to make a greater impact in their professional lives

In an unconventional twist to business trips, professionals are now turning to magic mushroom retreats to enhance their career development. These retreats, such as those offered by The Journeymen Collective in Canada, provide psilocybin experiences aimed at fostering “conscious business” practices. As reported by the New York Post, co-founders Robert Grover and Gary Logan have seen a 183% increase in bookings this year, highlighting the growing interest in their unique approach.

Conscious Approach To Business

Attendees at The Journeymen Collective seek to advance their self-understanding to make a greater impact in their professional lives. “What people are looking for is to advance their own understanding of self so they can have a greater impact in their business.” He added, “They're more passionately and purposefully engaged in their business, and as a function of that, profits take care of themselves,” Grover said.

Rising Popularity And Client Experiences

The retreat, located in Kelowna, British Columbia, caters to small groups, offering four-day or longer sessions. Around 60% of their clientele are from the US, 30% from Canada, and 10% international. Participants report leaving the retreat with a heightened sense of empathy and a renewed passion for their work. Brandon, a Canadian business development manager for a construction company who did not reveal his last name, shared his experience. “I started seeing my role in business as something I was grateful for, instead of being like, oh, I gotta do this to make money.”

Expanding Reach Of Psilocybin Retreats

The Journeymen Collective is not alone in catering to business professionals. MycoMeditations in Jamaica and 1heart in Costa Rica also offer tailored psilocybin retreats for corporate leaders. In Oregon, InnerTrek plans to introduce an initial group of executives to their state-licensed psilocybin services next year. “The world of career development for professional and personal development and the intersection of Oregon's psilocybin therapy program is ready to go,” said Nate Howard, InnerTrek’s director of operations.

A Luxury Experience

The Journeymen Collective provides more than just psilocybin journeys. Guests enjoy vegetarian and organic meals, hikes, swims in a saltwater pool and relaxation in a hot tub and plunge pool. Retreats are designed to provide a holistic experience that promotes clarity, empathy and creativity. “Even something as simple as the beds were designed by us,” said Grover.

Investment In Personal Growth

While the retreats come with a hefty price tag – starting at around $15,000 for a four-month program – participants view it as an investment in themselves. Former venture capitalist Peggy Van de Plassche credited her experience at The Journeymen Collective with inspiring her to shift careers and write a book on microdosing. “The pandemic put a strain on my business … I was suffering from mental health issues, I was always running so fast,” she said.

Growing Acceptance

Although discussing psilocybin use remains taboo in many professional settings, the benefits reported by participants suggest a growing acceptance. Brandon noted a deeper connection with a colleague after discovering their shared experience with psychedelics. “I just feel like I'm so much more present with people, and I just see them as a miracle now … it allows me to be of service to them in a different way,” he said.
