Ukraine Establishes Guidelines For Medical/Industrial/Scientific Cannabis Transport

A month following a law allowing the distribution of cannabis plants for medical, industrial and scientific purposes in Ukraine going into effect, the country's government came up with additional rules to regulate the nascent industry.

The government in the Eastern European country has come up with guidelines for transporting cannabis within its borders.

Under the new rules, made public by the Ministry of Health, businesses with the appropriate licenses for handling narcotics, psychotropic substances and their precursors can legally transport medical cannabis, including raw cannabis plants, cannabis-based substances and medications derived from the plants, reported Bukvy.

While it's legal to transport medical cannabis by road or air, sending it via mail or by train is considered illegal.

Moreover, companies have been given the green light to choose whether they would transport the goods or they would hire external licensed carriers. Shipments need to be accompanied by an authorized representative from the company tasked with keeping records on shipments as well as under the supervision of state security services.

The shipments that exceed 10 liters or kilograms of active cannabis material, having a satellite tracking system is a requirement.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a bill that legalizes medical cannabis law earlier this year after the Ukrainian Parliament successfully unblocked the approval of a medical marijuana legalization bill in January.

Zelenskyy and other Ukraine officials praised the benefits of cannabis for overall health. The plant has proved useful for citizens helping them to deal with the pain, stress and trauma of the Russio-Ukrainian War that started in 2014. Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
