Trump's DEA Drama: He Didn't Quit, I Fired Him — A Tale Of Pastors, Pandemic And Hurt Feelings

President-elect Donald Trump said Wednesday that he himself pulled out his initial pick to lead the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) despite the fact that Florida Sheriff Chad Chronister announced the day before that he was withdrawing from consideration.

Nevertheless, Trump took to the airwaves insisting that Chronister did not pull out, but rather it was the other way around.

Then He Shot The Messenger

"The Wall Street Journal is becoming more and more obnoxious and unreadable. Today's main headline is: ‘Trump's DEA Pick Pulls Out In Latest Setback.' With all that's happening in the World, this is their Number One story of the day," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"Besides, he didn't pull out, I pulled him out, because I did not like what he said to my pastors and other supporters. But, more importantly, what's my ‘latest’ setback???'"

Trump’s Pastors?

Trump was referring to an incident from back in the dark days of the pandemic when Chronister announced the arrest of a Tampa church pastor for having conducted a service during the height of social distancing. Though the charges were ultimately dropped, Florida's right-wing anti-maskers went on a rampage against Chronister at the time.

When Chronister said no to the Trump DEA job offer, he didn't mention the conservative backlash that was bubbling up mostly in Florida, although some out-of-staters jumped in to give him hell. "This sheriff ordered the arrest of a pastor for holding services during the COVID panic. Glad to see him withdraw from consideration," Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky) posted on X. "Next time politicians lose their ever-lovin minds, he can redeem himself by following the Constitution.”

Did Someone Get His Feelings Hurt?

When he initially picked Chronister to head up the DEA, Trump sang his praises, saying the sheriff would succeed in stopping "the flow of Fentanyl, and other Illegal Drugs, across the Southern Border, and SAVE LIVES."

Is Trump feeling jilted? That could be, but we'll never know. The President-elect has valiantly chosen to move on. As for who will lead the DEA, we'll just have to wait. There surely are hundreds waiting in the wings (and the halls of Fox News), in the hope of getting the tweet that'll change his/her life.
