Walt Disney To Launch New Channels In South Korea (DIS, SKM)

The Walt Disney Co. DIS has unveiled its plans to launch two Korean-language Disney channels in South Korea. The Walt Disney Company will collaborate with SK Telecom (ADR) SKM for this venture. Under the new pact, the company will launch Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney Channel in the country. The programs are specifically aimed at children and families. The channels are expected to debut in the spring of 2011. The project is yet to be approved by the Korean authorities. The Walt Disney Co. will have 49 percent stake in the venture, whereas remaining 51 percent will be owned by SK Telecom. The channels will be transmitted through cable and internet connected TV services.
