Goldman May Spin Off Private Equity Business (GS)

Fox Business Network’s Charlie Gasparino is reporting that Goldman Sachs GS may be spinning off its private equity business to comply with the recently passed financial reform bill. According to sources, the internal discussions are more than just theoretical, as senior executives at the firm are worried that mandates via the Volcker Rule may spur investors to flee those investments pending such uncertainty about the matter. By spinning the business off, Goldman would be able to retain those clients and even raise more money for those funds should they desire.
