Dude... You're Getting A Stock Boost-- Saga Never Ends (DELL, PAR, HPQ)

Yesterday, 3Par PAR announced it had begun discussions with Hewlett-Packard HPQ about the surprise bid HP made for 3Par. You can read more about the discussions between the two companies here. It was also announced that it has given Dell DELL three business days to come back with a better offer. Dell had offered $18 per share for 3PAR. Based on today's trading price, it appears Dell may just in fact walk away from the deal as shares are trading up 1.5% to $11.77. Initially, Dell shareholders saw this as a bad deal for the company, thus sending shares of the computer maker down. Dell had offered $1.15 billion for the data storage company, which was about 72 times earnings. In a response that came out of nowhere, HP upped Dell's offer to over to $24 per share, which is 100 times earnings. Shares of 3PAR are down today as well, suggesting Dell may not come back with a better offer. On the other hand, shares of 3PAR are still above the $24 cash offer that HPQ had made a few days ago, signaling some investors still believe that a better offer from Dell may come in. It could also be that another bidder may emerge, but that appears less likely. Ultimately, only time will tell and the next few days should be very interesting in this love triangle of tech titans.
