Thanks to having Guy Oseary as her manager, Madonna is one of the many celebrities and musicians who own a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT.
Here’s the story on how Madonna bought an NFT from one of the most well-known collections, but missed out on her favorite Ape.
What Happened: Oseary, known for managing musical acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna and U2, recently turned a portion of his attention to the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). He signed a talent agency deal with Yuga Labs, the creators of Bored Ape Yacht Club, as well as a similar deal with World of Women.
Oseary’s relationship with Bored Ape Yacht Club and strong feelings on the project moving forward led to Madonna getting involved in NFTs.
Madonna met Oseary when she was 18, telling Variety she was an “adventurous, crazy one.”
“As the years went by, he took on a more of a parental role,” Madonna said.
The musician purchased Bored Ape #4988 in March paying 180 Ethereum ETH/USD, or around $462,800 at the time.
“I finally entered the metaverse,” Madonna said. “My very own Ape! What should I name her?”
Bored Ape #4988 has the following traits:
- Orange background: 13% of Apes
- Sleeveless Logo T: 1%
- Wide Eyed: 5%
- DMT Fur: 2%
- S&M Hat: 2%
- Bored Cigarette: 7%
Interestingly enough, when Madonna shared her new Ape on Twitter TWTR and Instagram, she changed the background color to blue and photoshopped the cigarette out of the Ape’s mouth.
This wasn’t the first choice for Madonna and the musician commented recently on the Ape that got away as part of a featured cover story on Oseary for Variety.
“I was hellbent on getting an Ape and really specific about what I wanted: the Ape with a leather motorcycle cap on and multicolored teeth,” Madonna said.
Madonna had her eyes set on Bored Ape #3756, which she was told was inspired by her and was bought by a Madonna fan.
Bored Ape #3756 has the following traits:
- New Punk Blue Background: 12%
- Leather Jacket: 2%
- Gold Stud Earring: 4%
- Bored Eyes: 17%
- Trippy Fur: 0.77% (only 77 have)
- S&M Hat: 2%
- Grin Multicolor: 1%
“I was so pissed off that I didn’t get the one I wanted. Once I get my mind around something then that’s what I’m going to have. But I learned quickly that wanting 32 musicians on a stage in a small theater is not the same as wanting an ape with a leather motorcycle cap and multicolored teeth.”
Madonna said the Ape was too expensive and a deal couldn’t be reached with the owner.
“I can’t afford my own ape.”
Ape #3756 ranks as the 123rd rarest Bored Ape according to Rarity Tools with Ape #4988 ranking 3,436th.

Why It’s Important: Bored Ape #3756 is currently listed for sale on OpenSea for 800.69 ETH, or $1.39 million. Madonna is worth $575 million according to Forbes, but the price tag is still high for the musician who has earned over $1 billion in her career.
Madonna is one of the many musicians and celebrities who own Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs and other NFTs. Madonna is also the holder of World of Women NFTs, which is her current profile picture on Twitter.
Madonna also collaborated with well-known digital artist Beeple for an NFT collection called “Mother of Creation.”
When it comes to Oseary, Madonna said her manager has been fearless for awhile, something that could be a reason for his huge interest in NFTs.
“He’s always been the man behind the artist taking the risk. He reminds me on a regular basis that he’s essentially invested all this money in the crypto world,” Madonna said.
Madonna jokingly said she’s not happy sharing Oseary with more people now with his interest in the NFT world.
“I’m not happy sharing him with apes. Why did all these people have to show up?”
Price Action: The floor price for Bored Apes is 85.99 ETH or around $148,884 at the time of writing.
