Vitalik Buterin Isn't An Apple Fan But This 'Important' iPhone Update Leaves Him Impressed

Ethereum ETH/USD creator Vitalik Buterin lauded Apple Inc.'s AAPL latest user security update as "a positive step."

What Happened: As Apple rolled out its iOS 16.2, which adds end-to-end encryption for iCloud backups, including photographs and other data, Buterin praised the tech giant's security update.

He stated that while he is critical of Apple's assertion of being "way too proprietary," the Cupertino-based company has introduced "some important good" features to protect user privacy.

Buterin was replying to a tweet about the iOS 16.2 update, which added that end-to-end encryption for iCloud backups is only available if users opt for it. "If you use iOS, update and opt-in now!"

Why It's Important: Last week, the CEO Tim Cook-led company announced an "Advanced Data Protection" feature for its iCloud services to provide end-to-end encryption for user data, including documents and photos.

The feature will not include iCloud mail, contacts and calendar as they need to "interoperate with the global email, contacts and calendar systems."

The tech giant stated then that only U.S. users can get the feature this year, while a global rollout will happen by early 2023.
