Tech blogger Andy Baio on Wednesday stumbled upon an unexpected find within Apple Inc's AAPL MacOS: a copy of the Bitcoin BTC/USD white paper.

What Happened: The discovery, confirmed by Baio in all MacOS versions since 2018, has left many crypto enthusiasts scratching their heads.

According to Baio’s findings, the Bitcoin white paper is stored within the Image Capture utility under a device named “Virtual Scanner II.”

To access the document, users can either navigate through the System folder in Finder or open a Terminal on their Mac and type the below command:

open /System/Library/Image\ Capture/Devices/VirtualScanner.app/Contents/Resources/simpledoc.pdf

(The other way is to open Finder and click on Macintosh HD, then open the System > Library > Image Capture > Devices folder. Control+click on VirtualScanner.app and Show Package Contents, open the Contents>Resources folder inside, then open simpledoc.pdf.)

Coincidentally, this discovery of the Bitcoin white paper tucked away in Apple’s macOS comes on the 48th birthday of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin.

The inclusion of the white paper raises questions about whether it was an intentional move by a Bitcoin enthusiast within Apple or simply an oversight with an intriguing outcome.

What makes this all the more interesting is that a member of the Apple community highlighted the presence of the white paper back in 2021, but to date, no explanation has come out from Apple or its employees.

Satoshi Nakamoto is the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin and the author of the original white paper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” back in 2008. Despite being the mastermind, Nakamoto’s true identity remains unknown to this day.

Some believe that he is an individual, while others speculate that he may be a group of people. The enigma surrounding Nakamoto’s identity only adds to the lore of Bitcoin and has inspired countless investigations and theories as to his true identity over the years.

Price Action: At the time of writing, BTC was trading at $27,998, down 1.81% in the last 24 hours, according to Benzinga Pro.
