In late November 2022, Keith Grossman announced on Twitter (aka X) that he was leaving the team at Time magazine to become the president of MoonPay, a Web3 company that provides easy ways for people to buy crypto using fiat.
In the multi-tweet post, Grossman explained that he appreciated the opportunities he had working at TIME, but the allure of Web3 technology called him to make the change.
Grossman said in a tweet, “In 2020, I noticed a trend too big to ignore - web3 - which provided an evolution from online rentership to ownership. I knew I needed to move from the comforts of being an observer to that of participant in this adoption.”
Grossman is well known for his track record of growing media organizations. He has served in leadership roles with organizations such as Bloomberg, Wired (owned by Conde Nast), Ars Technica, Engine, and Time magazine. Grossman led multiple efforts, including Bloomberg’s 24x7 video news service QuickTake and Time magazine’s TIMEPieces NFT drop. At Time magazine, Grossman’s fascination with Web3 grew, and he generated more than $10 million in revenue through NFTs.
In addition to expanding Time’s NFT ventures to include featured magazines, historical moments, and artwork, Grossman helped create the IP division of Time Studios to feature other NFT artists. He also launched Time’s B2B business group that supports the transition to Web3.
Grossman advised National Geographic in the launch of their 1888 NFT collection to reflect the publication’s 135-year history. He also helped to raise $200,000 for the non-profit New York Cares through an AI-generated NFT sale,
Why Grossman Is Someone To Watch In 202
Grossman is himself a Web2-to-Web3 success story, having followed his vision of the vast potential of Web3 to MoonPay, where he brought his traditional media business prowess to Web3.
His focus on crossing the boundaries from Web2 to Web3 is a perfect fit for leading the growth of MoonPay, which ultimately wishes to simplify the process of acquiring cryptocurrencies for newcomers to the space and streamline the transaction process for more experienced users.
MoonPay has relationships with celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton, and The Weeknd as well as brands like Dolce & Gabbana. Grossman is in an excellent position to expand these relationships and build new ones based on his media experience.
Due to his passion for the Web3 space and his experience crossing the divide between traditional business and the frontier of new blockchain technology, Grossman is definitely someone to watch in Web3 in 2023.
