Bankman-Fried Faces Unjust Pre-trial Hurdles, Lawyers Allege

  • Bankman-Fried's lawyers dismissed claims by the DOJ concerning the conditions of his confinement.
  • Bankman-Fried allegedly faced a five-hour internet blackout.

Sam Bankman-Fried's lawyers have dismissed claims by the Department of Justice (DOJ) concerning the conditions of his confinement, particularly as they relate to his restricted access to his laptop.

What Happened: In a memo on Friday, defense attorneys reiterated severe constraints faced by Bankman-Fried, emphasizing that the restricted internet connectivity has been a stumbling block in gearing up for his trial.

Bankman-Fried reportedly faced a complete internet blackout for five hours, an issue that his attorneys said was a substantial impediment in the groundwork for his forthcoming trial.

The lawyers pointed out that the blackout barred Bankman-Fried from scrutinizing and retrieving documents from essential databases, thereby stifling their work in coming up with a proper defense strategy, CoinDesk reported.

"Effectively, Mr. Bankman-Fried had no access to the internet for the entire 5-hour period," the letter emphasized.

"Despite the Government’s efforts, there does not appear to be a way to solve the internet access problem in the cellblock. That means that Mr. Bankman-Fried has no way to review and search documents the discovery database or the AWS database before trial. The defendant cannot prepare for trial with these kinds of limitations," it continued.
