Listing Bitcoin ETF In Eligibility File Is Standard Practice, DTCC Claims: Report

Zinger Key Points
  • A DTCC spokesperson indicated that inclusion of Bitcoin ETF in eligibility file is no indication of a sure approval.
  • The ETF offering was first added to the list in August 2023.

BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBTC) was included on the DTCC list on Monday, but it vanished on Tuesday. It reappeared later in the day.

Bitcoin prices have seen a 23% gain in the past week, while the past month saw an increase of 33%.

A DTCC spokesperson told Blockworks that the names in the file, kept by DTCC subsidiary National Securities Clearing Corporation, include active and potential ETF securities. The proposed BlackRock offering was first added to the list in August, according to DTCC.

DTCC said: “Appearing on the list is simply an indication that an agent bank has requested a DTCC identifier for an ETF fund and that DTCC may process that transaction at an undetermined date in the future following SEC approval.”

It added that the proposed fund’s inclusion on the list is “not indicative of an outcome for any outstanding regulatory or other approval processes in respect of a particular ETF fund.”

The U.S. Court of Appeals also asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to reassess Grayscale's Spot Bitcoin ETF application.
