'Dr. Doom' Nouriel Roubini Welcomes Ex-Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao's Resignation Amidst Criminal Charges: 'Good Riddance!'

Noted economist Nouriel Roubini, known for his critical views of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin BTC/USD, expressed satisfaction over the resignation of Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao amidst allegations of money laundering.

What Happened: Roubini, aka “Dr. Doom,” took to Twitter to comment on the recent resignation and criminal charges against Binance’s CEO, Changpeng Zhao. He referred to a previous altercation between the two, saying, “And he was trying to trash me again only a week ago… good riddance!”

The tweet, made on Tuesday, comes in the wake of Zhao’s decision to step down from his role at Binance and plead guilty to anti-money laundering charges.

Why It Matters: Roubini’s satisfaction with Zhao’s downfall can be traced back to their past confrontations. In November 2023, Roubini launched his own cryptocurrency, leading to disapproval from Zhao.

Roubini has accused Binance and Zhao of aiding the Iranian regime to launder funds, referring to Zhao as a crook.

In a separate tweet, Roubini said that the Treasury Department failed to report over 100,000 suspicious transactions linked to ransomware attacks, child sexual abuse, large-scale hacks, the narcotics trade and terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda and ISIS. Dr. Doom peppered the tweet with poop and vomit emojis to express his disdain.
